Bark Butter: The Spreadable Suet Birds Love!
Created by Jim Carpenter, founder of Wild Birds Unlimited, Jim's Birdacious® Bark Butter® is a spreadable suet made from suet, peanut butter and corn for a high energy food your birds will love. It's been shown to attract over 160 different species and counting, including many of the resident, migrant, and/or overwintering birds we see here in the Valley, such as catbirds, cardinals, mockingbirds, wrens, woodpeckers, towhees, grosbeaks, and robins.
Jim created Bark Butter more than 20 years ago to attract Brown Creepers, but discovered that it attracted many more birds, including many that do not normally visit feeders. See the list of known attracted species (so far!) and watch the video.
Easy to Use
Bark Butter is super easy to use:
- Just smear it on tree bark. Pick a tree you can easily see so you can enjoy the birds feeding.
- Use fork prongs to make ridges in the Bark Butter, making it easier for your birds to grab a bite.

No Tree? No Problem!
- We carry special Bark Butter Feeders. Just smear some on and hang that anywhere convenient.
- Or try our Bark Butter Bits®. These are no-melt, bite-sized nuggets of our Bark Butter, which can be fed on a tray or cup feeder.
- Then there's Bugs & Bits®, which combines our Bark Butter Bits with dried mealworms, which helps attract even more birds that don't normally visit feeders!

The Best Suet for Your Birds
Suet is available at a lot of stores. However, not all suet is created equal, and finding the best for your birds can be tricky if you just grab the least expensive option on the shelf. Look at all we do to provide your birds with the best, most nutritional suet.

About Our Regular and No-Melt Suets
- REGULAR SUET: The regular versions of our suets can withstand temps up to 95°F, so they'll last well into the summer when hung in the shade. They can also be stored in your freezer for up to 6 months to await the return of cooler outdoor temperatures.
- NO-MELT SUETS: Our No-Melts are no-brainers for peak RGV summers—they can withstand temps up to 130°F!
