Stop In for Native Plants!
After our occasional native plant sales were such a hit, we decided to start stocking natives for you more regularly. So drop by anytime for a selection of native plants to help beautify your yard and support our Valley birds! (Supplies vary and may differ from the plants shown in photo.)
Why Plant Natives?
Because it's good for local wildlife AND for you! Win-win! Texas-native plants:
- Provide essential food and shelter for resident and migratory birds, butterflies, and other pollinators
- Look great
- Typically require less water and are better at withstanding the RGV's climate and native pests
Our Special Rio Grande Valley Habitats Need Your Help
- The American Forests’ Rio Grande Valley restoration project tells us that "The thornforests in the Rio Grande Valley are one of the most biodiverse landscapes in North America. They provide habitat for 1,200 plant species, 519 bird species and 300 butterfly species." However, thornforests are currently "less than 10% of their historic range."
- The Valley Land Fund notes, “It is estimated that less than five percent of the original native habitat remains" here in the Rio Grande Valley.
We can each help by planting more natives. Visit these fantastic organizations to learn more.
