How to Create a Successful Bird Feeding Station

It's easy to create a bird feeding station that both you and your birds will enjoy for years to come!

Location, Location, Location

When choosing where to place your bird feeding station:

  • Avoid the window-strike zone: Place your station either within 3 feet of a window or beyond 10 feet. Within 3 feet, birds "fleeing" the feeder area will not have built up enough speed to injure themselves if they strike the window. Beyond 10 feet, birds will have enough time to spot and avoid the window.
  • Set a squirrel-proof zone: If there are squirrels around, place your station at least 10 feet away from any structures or objects they can jump from. You'll also want to add a squirrel baffle.
  • Allow for good viewing: Don't forget yourself! Pick a location that lets you easily watch and enjoy your birds.

A Solid Foundation

Make your life easier by investing in a durable, easy-to-use pole or hook, like our exclusive, patented Advanced Pole System® (APS). It's no run-of-the-mill shepherd's hook! Our APS is:

  • Tough and durable, with powder-coated steel components and stabilizers to hold the pole straight even in wind.
  • Modular and customizable
  • Easy-to-install

Three APS Kits to Choose From

  • The Hanging Kit includes a pole, a double-crook arm for hanging two feeders, and everything you need to easily and quickly drill the pole into the ground. No extra tools required.
  • The Mounting Kit is similar, but instead of a crook arm, it has a dual-flange at the top for pole-mounted style feeders or houses.
  • The Deck Kit let you securely attach an extendable, swivel arm to most deck or balcony railings so you can suspend 1 or 2 feeders.

Feeders and accessories sold separately.

  • It's easy to add extra crook arms, dish brackets, or branch perches with our EZ-Attach design. Just slip the EZ-Attach unit on an extension pole and pull down to secure.
  • Adding a squirrel or raccoon baffle is also easy.

Creating a Feeding Station on Your Deck or Balcony

Our exclusive APS Deck Kit makes it easy to create a custom bird feeding station on most deck or balcony railings.

  • The deck arm swings in for quick, easy feeder refilling.
  • The kit comes with an adjustable feeder hanger that lets you hang a second feeder, if you'd like. The deck arm supports up to 12 lbs. total.
  • All powder-coated steel parts in the kit connect without tools.
  • The modular design lets you expand or adapt your setup through the seasons with additional accessories (sold separately).
  • To help keep your deck or balcony tidy, we recommend using No-Mess foods, which contain no shells, hulls, or millet.

The Right Feeders and Foods

Once you've installed your pole or hook, you're ready to add feeders.

  • Did you know different birds like to feed in different ways? Or that different birds prefer different foods?
  • That's why to attract a greater variety of birds, it's best to use a combination of different types of feeders and foods. Learn more on our webpage, or stop in, and we'll be happy to talk to you about which local birds you're hoping to attract, and the best ways you can do that.
